In the Valley of a Thousand Hills, many animals face challenges that extend beyond abandonment. Hunger, untreated illness, uncontrolled breeding and limited access to veterinary care can make life difficult for pets and the families who love them. At Animal Antics Pet Rescue, we believe practical help can change these circumstances, and that no animal should be forgotten simply because its owner cannot afford the care it needs.
Based in Botha’s Hill, KwaZulu-Natal, our rescue was established in 2017 by Samantha de Wet and Aleanna du Plessis. What began with a shared passion for animals developed into a rescue organisation dedicated to helping abandoned, abused, injured and neglected pets. We place particular emphasis on animals who require additional medical treatment, rehabilitation or time to recover before adoption.
Our Valley Feeding Scheme is one of the most important parts of our work. We provide food to approximately 400 dogs, cats and other animals each week, helping families who struggle to meet their pets’ nutritional needs. This requires substantial quantities of food and dependable community support. We also distribute blankets and other supplies during colder months to help protect vulnerable animals from harsh weather.
Rescue often involves animals with urgent medical needs. We assist with veterinary treatment for injuries, malnutrition and illness, while also supporting sterilisation and preventative care where possible. Parvovirus prevention is a particular concern, especially for puppies who have not received adequate vaccinations. These interventions can make a lasting difference to animals who might otherwise go without treatment.
For the dogs and cats in our care, we work towards suitable permanent homes through our adoption programme. Our application process considers each applicant’s home environment, existing pets, veterinary arrangements and ability to provide appropriate care. We have firm expectations regarding sterilisation, shelter and humane treatment, and we conduct follow-ups to help safeguard the animals we rehome.
Animal Antics depends heavily on the generosity of people who share our commitment. Foster families provide temporary care, volunteers assist with animal transport and welfare concerns, and donors help us cover food, veterinary bills and everyday expenses. Every bag of food, financial contribution and offer of assistance helps us reach animals whose needs might otherwise go unanswered.
