Every animal that arrives at Woodrock Animal Rescue has a story. Some have been abandoned, others have experienced neglect or injury, and many have lost the only home they have ever known. Whatever their circumstances, we believe they deserve compassion, proper care and the opportunity for a better future.
Nestled in the Hennops River Valley near Pretoria, our 8.5-hectare sanctuary provides a safe haven for hundreds of animals. While dogs and cats make up a significant part of our rescue family, we also care for donkeys, pigs, goats, rabbits and other animals who need protection. Each has individual needs, and our dedicated team works to ensure they receive the attention, veterinary treatment and rehabilitation they deserve.
Life at Woodrock revolves around the animals in our care. Some need medical treatment and time to recover, while others need patience, reassurance and positive human interaction before they feel safe again. Our volunteers and foster families play an important role in this process, helping animals build confidence and prepare for the next chapter of their lives.
We believe successful adoption begins with the right match. Every animal has its own temperament, history and requirements, and we encourage prospective adopters to consider these carefully. Through our adoption programme and regular Pop-Pup adoption events, we help families meet potential companions and understand the responsibilities that come with offering an animal a permanent home.
Of course, rescue work extends beyond the animals already in our shelter. Through sterilisation initiatives, community outreach and animal welfare education, we aim to address some of the circumstances that contribute to abandonment and neglect. We believe that better access to veterinary care, greater awareness and responsible pet ownership can help prevent animals from ending up in rescue situations.
Woodrock is fortunate to have a community of people who believe in our work. Volunteers, foster families, donors and sponsors help us provide food, shelter, medical care and daily enrichment. Our thrift shops, fundraising initiatives and sponsorship programmes provide further support for the animals who depend on us, including those who may require lifelong care.
Every animal deserves to be treated as an individual, with patience, dignity and respect. That belief continues to guide our work and our commitment to the animals who find their way to Woodrock.
