For over six decades, Middelburg SPCA has worked to protect animals from cruelty, neglect and unnecessary suffering. Based in Middelburg, Mpumalanga, we serve the Steve Tshwete municipal area and surrounding communities, where our inspectors investigate animal welfare complaints, respond to emergencies and help enforce animal protection legislation.
As an open-admission shelter, we provide refuge for stray, abandoned and unwanted dogs and cats. The number of animals who come through our doors places considerable pressure on our resources, and we sometimes face difficult decisions about their welfare. We believe in an honest, compassionate approach that puts each animal’s quality of life first.
Our adoption process includes an application, home assessment and compulsory sterilisation. We carefully consider the suitability of prospective homes and the individual needs of each animal. We also provide microchipping and short-term boarding services, alongside public education about responsible pet ownership and the prevention of cruelty.
Our work depends on community support through donations, kennel sponsorships, fundraising and volunteering. Contributions towards food, veterinary expenses and everyday shelter supplies help us continue to protect vulnerable animals and provide practical assistance where it is needed most.
